Can Zoom See What You Do on Your Phone?

In a Zoom meeting, other participants can see the video you send from your camera and hear the audio you send from your microphone, but simply joining a meeting does not give them a view of everything you do on your phone. If you turn off your camera or mute your microphone, that stops the corresponding video or audio from being sent through the meeting; you can also review your phone’s camera and microphone permissions before joining.

Screen sharing is the important exception: while you share your phone’s screen, meeting participants may see what appears there, including an app or tab you switch to and notifications that pop up. Before sharing, close anything private, consider silencing notifications, and watch for your phone’s screen-sharing indicator so you know when sharing is active and can stop it when you’re done.

Zoom the meeting app is separate from the zoom feature in your phone’s camera, which changes how you frame a photo rather than who can view your phone. If you meant camera zoom, our guide, Understanding Phone Zoom Quality: A Complete Guide to Phone Camera Zoom Quality Explained, covers that photography topic; using camera zoom by itself does not share your photos or screen with a meeting.

Our team recommends sharing only when you need to, stopping the share before opening personal messages or accounts, and checking which camera, microphone, and screen permissions your phone has granted Zoom. A work- or school-managed phone may also have separate management tools and policies, so its administrator’s visibility is a different question from what a Zoom host can see during a meeting.
